These two Kanto starter Pokémon received some much needed love with the expansion after Charizard received its own Gigantamax form in the main games. Now that G-Max Blastoise and Venusaur are available in the Gen 8 games, how exactly can you obtain them?

Well, continue reading to receive all the information you need on obtaining these two powerful Pokémon.

HOW TO OBTAIN GIGANTAMAX BLASTOISE AND VENUSAUR

The easiest way to obtain these forms is by playing through the story of The Isle of Armor.

When you meet with Mustard in his dojo, you’ll be tasked with completing three trials. The first trial has your character chasing down three Galarian Slowpoke and defeating them in battle.

Once you’ve completed this task and return to Mustard, his wife Honey will gift you with either a Squirtle or Bulbasaur, the pre-evolutions of Blastoise and Venusaur. Players will need to choose one.

These Pokémon have the ability to Gigtantamax upon evolving so if you’re looking to receive this powerful form this is the simplest way of doing it. Both Squirtle and Bulbasaur come at Level 10 and with their normal abilities.

Upon Gigantamaxing, Blastoise learns the move G-Max Cannonade, which inflicts damage and deals more at the end of each turn to all Pokémon who are not Water-type.

Gigantamax Venusaur learns G-Max Vine Lash, which has the same effect as Cannonade but deals damage at the end of each turn to Pokémon that are not Grass-type.

POKEMON HOME/MAX SOUP

Another way to obtain one or both Gigantamax forms is by transferring your Pokémon or breeding one of your own and using the new item, Max Soup on it.

Max Soup is an item that will grant a Pokémon that has the potential to Gigtanamax the ability to do so in battle. This is perfect for trainers who have bred and trained up a Blastoise and Venusaur in previous games.

Simply transfer them over to Sword and Shield and use the Max Soup feature by handing over Max Mushrooms to the cook in Mustard’s dojo. Feed your Pokémon the Max Soup and they’ll gain the ability to Gigantamax.

This is perfect for trainers looking to add this ability to their Blastoise or Venusaur with their Hidden Abilities, special moves or if they have a Shiny Blastoise or Venusaur they want to upgrade.

Pokémon Sword and Shield and The Island of Armor DLC are available now for Nintendo Switch.
