Which iPhones Are iOS 14 Compatible?
The following devices can run iOS 14. As long as you’ve got one of these, you can update to iOS 14.
Make sure that you back up your iPhone. It’s rare that something goes wrong during an iOS upgrade, but in case it does, it’s crucial that you have a fresh copy of your data that you can restore onto your phone. Once you’ve backed up your iPhone, connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi. You can use 4G or 5G, also, but Wi-Fi is often faster and doesn’t have any monthly data limits (iOS updates are big files that use a lot of data!). With that done, tap Settings. Tap General. Tap Software Update. Your iPhone will check to see if you have an update. If there’s one available, tap Install Now (the button might also read Download and Install). You may be prompted to accept terms or take other actions in pop-up windows. If so, tap them and continue. The iOS 14 update will download. How long this takes depends on how fast your connection is. Your iPhone will install iOS 14 and restart. When it does, you’ve got iOS 14. Tap any onscreen prompts and you’ll be ready to start using it!
How to Update to iOS 14 Using a Mac or PC
If you prefer to update to iOS 14 using a PC or a Mac, you can do that, too. The steps are pretty similar. Here’s what you need to do:
Connect your iPhone to your computer using the USB cable or via Wi-Fi. Back up your iPhone. The upgrade process is usually pretty smooth, but in case something goes wrong, you’ll want a fresh copy of your data that you can restore onto your phone. This step differs slightly depending on if you have a Mac or Windows: Windows: Open iTunes, if it’s not already open, and click on the iPhone icon in the top left corner. Mac: Open a new Finder window and click on your iPhone in the left-hand sidebar. If you’re using macOS 10. 14 (Mojave) and earlier, use iTunes instead of the Finder. On the iPhone management screen, click Check for Update. In the pop-up window, click Download and Install. The iOS 14 update will download. The time this takes differs based on the speed of your Internet connection. Your iPhone will install iOS 14. Agree to any onscreen prompts that appear.
