The International Space Station Pokémon stream kicked off on Thursday morning (North American time) and offered live footage from space as augmented-reality Pokémon appeared on-screen.
It was a neat visual that Pokémon fans could enjoy as the new year arrives. While that stream concludes, trainers can pick up the special Pikachu via the Mystery Gift function in Sword or Shield, and they’ll have to do it soon, as it’s only available for a limited time.
HOW TO GET SPECIAL PIKACHU IN POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD
This special “space” Pikachu can be obtained for free via Sword and Shield’s Mystery Gift feature.
From December 31 to January 15, 2021, trainers who enter the Mystery Gift feature will be gifted the KIBO Pikachu that knows a special Egg Move and an attack that is reserved for special Pokémon.
To obtain the KIBO Pikachu, trainers simply have to follow these steps:
Press Y and select “Mystery Gift"Select “Get a Mystery Gift"Select “Get via Internet"Sword/Shield will connect to the internet, when it does it’ll inform youSelect “KIBO’s Pikachu Gift”
Once you’ve followed these steps, the KIBO Pikachu will be sent to your box. The Electric-type Pokémon comes at level 21—for the year 2021—and with its standard Static ability.
As for its moves, this Pikachu comes with Thunderbolt, Swift, Wish and Celebrate. The first two attacks are normal moves for Pikachu, but Wish is an Egg Move that needs to be bred onto your Pikachu to get.
Wish is a healing move that heals you or the Pokémon that replaces it in battle by half of is max HP. It’s a powerful move that can help any team.
Celebrate, on the other hand, is a move that doesn’t deal damage or have any special effects. It’s just a gimmick attack that is used to commemorate special holidays or special distributions, like the KIBO Pikachu.
While Celebrate doesn’t do much in battle on its own, when Z-Moves were around, it was a powerful attack. Powering up Celebrate with Z-Energy would create Z-Celebrate, which boosts each of your Pokémon’s stats by one stage.
In Contest Battles, it was the perfect set up move to get high appeal when paired with either Fling, Bestow or Present. Unfortunately, with both Z-Moves and contests non-existent in the Galar region, it’s just there as a reminder of where trainers received it.
It should be noted that this special KIBO Pikachu can evolve into Raichu using a Thunder Stone, if you choose to do so.
